Samsung confirms it is developing a smartwatch
As smartphones continue to get smaller, several companies are reportedly working on bringing smartwatches to market, including Samsung, which recently confirmed that it is working on such a device.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Samsung’s vice president of mobile business Lee Young Hee said that the company has been working on smartwatch for some time. The Korean-based manufactured joins the likes of Apple and Google, which are also reportedly working on their own smartwatches, as well as Pebble and Sony, which have already introduced their own smart devices for the wrist.

Smartwatches are being positioned to offer users a quick way to keep track of notifications and emails as they arrive.

IPhone 4 delivers largest share of ad impressions
Despite Android holding a 70 percent of the smartphone market, advertisers continue to prefer reaching iOS users with the iPhone 4 having the largest share of impressions in February, according to a new report from Velti.

Velti’s State of Mobile Advertising report for February found that the iPhone 4 has a 19.1 percent share of impressions in the United States and Canada while the iPhone 4S had an 18.7 percent share and the iPod touch a 15.5 percent share. The iPhone 4 similarly leads share of impressions in Europe while the iPhone 4S is the leader in Asia.

This is consistent with the past six months, during which time iOS garnered more than 60 percent of impressions. However, while Android has a lower share of impressions, these users are more likely to interact with ads, with Android seeing a nearly 50 percent higher click-through rate than iOS in February.

ShareThis acquires Socialize to make apps more social
ShareThis has acquired Socialize, which provides app developers with a drop-in solution to make apps more social. The Palo Alto, CA-based company also announced it has closed a new round of funding and raised $23 million.

Socialize enables users of the same app to socialize with each other and engage around shared interests or extend the activity onto Facebook, Twitter and other social channels. Socialize’s social solutions have been integrated into hundreds of iOS and Android apps that have been installed on more than 67 million devices.

As mobile sharing grows, there is an opportunity to create mobile ad executions that combine knowledge of social audiences with engaging content. ShareThis will leverage Socialize to deliver a digital advertising solution for brands and its proprietary measure of the social quality of online content to include in-app mobile social actions, enabling publishers to get specific sharing analytics on desktop and mobile.

The new round of funding was led by T-Venture, the venture capital company of Deutsche Telekom.
